George Clooney stars as *Jay Kelly*, a famous movie star who just wants to spend a little time with his daughter, regretting all the time he's lost with her, but she's headed to Europe for vacation; he sneakily follows her, hoping to convince her to come to a film festival where he's being honored.

In theaters: *Five Nights at Freddy's 2;* *100 Nights of Hero*, starring Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, Nicholas Galitzine, and Charli xcx; and Kristen Stewart's directorial debut, *The Chronology of Water.*

On TV, fans of *Spartacus* can dive back into that world with the sequel series *House of Ashur*; the *Real Housewives of Beverly Hills* loses one of the ladies but gains another on the new season; and *Vanderpump Rules* cleaned house and hired an entirely new cast, who we get to meet this week.s

- The *Stranger Things 5* cast and creators tease what's ahead in Volume 2 and the series finale.

- "It gets very big," Matt Duffer says of the back half of the season.

- Shawn Levy on directing Volume 2 episodes: "There's a lot of ambitious sequences in it, but also some really juicy, emotional character work."

**Warning: This article contains spoilers from *Stranger Things* season 5, Volume 1. **

It's hard to imagine what the rest of *Stranger Things* season 5 is going to look like after Volume 1. The first four episodes arrived Wednesday night on Netflix and, collectively, they feel like their own contained season of television, complete with full character arcs, intense event set pieces, and one shocker of a cliffhanger. Now, fans await Volume 2, which will bring episodes 5-7 on Christmas Day, and then the 2-hour series finale come New Year's Eve.

How much bigger is the final season going to get? "It does not scale down, I will say that much," series co-creator Ross Duffer tells ** of the back half of *Stranger Things 5*. "This is one reason it's taken so long to get out and why we were filming for so long."

The final season filmed over a calendar year from January-December 2024. Ross' brother and creative partner, Matt Duffer, calls the episode 4 Demogorgon battle "the most challenging sequence we shot for the entire season" from a logistics perspective. From there, "it gets very big," he teases.

"I would say Volume 2, though, more than scaling up on the action, visual effects front, the emotional aspect of it is really what gets bigger and more impactful," Matt continues. "Obviously, we're barreling towards the end and the final episode is, in fact, the end of this story for these characters. So it's highly emotional — and much more emotional than Volume 1."

STRANGER THINGS: SEASON 5

The stars echo a lot of the same sentiments. "I haven't even seen the Volume 2 episodes yet, but from what I remember, it just keeps getting bigger, or you keep up that stamina," Sadie Sink, our resident Max Mayfield, says. "What's smart about the volumes, too, is that it's all building to episode 4 in the first one, and we start on a higher note [in Volume 2] but then build to episode 7 and then the series finale."

"You thought Volume 1 was crazy..." Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, begins, while his costar and bestie Millie Bobby Brown, who stars as Eleven, finishes that statement: "Get ready."

6 past 'Stranger Things' episodes that influenced season 5, according to the Duffers

Noah Schnapp's Will Byers in Stranger Things season 2, Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven in Stranger Things season 5, and Vecna/Henry Creel in Stranger Things season 4

The first Volume of *Stranger Things 5* left viewers with the remains of a massive Demogorgon battle, featuring a Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) appearance, that laid waste to the military base in Hawkins. As the Duffers confirmed to EW, Will was able to channel the big bad's psychic powers and destroy the monsters about to harm his friends, which adds what Matt Duffer calls a "new chess piece on the board in the battle for Hawkins."

Eleven also discovers her "sister" Kali/Eight (Linnea Berthelsen) is the thing hidden behind mystery door No. 1 in Dr. Kay's Upside Down laboratory. Meanwhile, the mind of Max has been trapped in Vecna's "mindscape" (essentially his memories) all this time while her body remains in Hawkins. Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy's (Natalia Dyer) little sister, Holly (Nell Fisher), remains with Max, while Vecna continues his hunt for the 12 children that he needs to fulfill some mysterious mission.

"The end of this volume is like a finale in itself," Charlie Heaton, who plays Will's older brother Jonathan Byers, comments. "If that was a long movie, it would end there and there'd be another one."

Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, describes the later episodes as a "big swing."

Shawn Levy, a longtime *Stranger Things* producer, typically directs episodes 3 and 4 of every season. Thanks to his commitments making *Deadpool & Wolverine*, he shifted gears for season 5, instead directing episode 6 and then co-directing episode 7 with the Duffer Brothers.

"I have to be cautious of spoilers. Let's just say there's a lot of ambitious sequences in it, but also some really juicy, emotional character work," Levy says of episode 6, titled "Escape From Camazotz."

For episode 7, "I'd never gotten to do one of those classic late-season 15-character scenes in a room, breaking down the plan, explaining the mythology," he points out. "I've always loved those scenes 'cause it's so satisfying. We wait all season for the characters to intersect and come up with that plan. So I got to direct some of those days, 14-15 of our series regulars in one room. It was chaos, very hard to get anyone to pay attention. Felt like a boisterous family reunion, but very fun to get to direct that kind of scene."

Levy, a filmmaker who regularly references the works of Steven Spielberg, further teases how "certain sequences are particularly Spielbergian in their inspiration" in the episodes he directs. "Every episode [in season 5] is ambitious storytelling, but there are some sequences in episode 6, for instance, where for something to feel event-y, it needs to be more than just big and complicated. It needs to be an ambitious set piece that is also rooted in key themes or key character growth moments."

Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, and Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things: Season 5.

Mike (Finn Wolfhard) walks the gang through the plan of attack in 'Stranger Things 5'.

It applies to the budgets, as well. Season 5's episodes don't just look expensive, "they are!" Levy exclaims. He came to *Stranger Things 5* after directing *Deadpool & Wolverine*, and he's now busy shooting *Star Wars: Starfighter* with Ryan Gosling. By comparison, "These episodes might as well be called movies," he says.

He describes one sequence in episode 6 he wishes he could spoil.

"I remember when I read a first season outline from the brothers and I said at that time, 'Oh my God, whatever poor son of a b---- has to do this sequence, dead meat. I wouldn't even begin to know how to figure out how to do that,'" the filmmaker recalls. "I begged them to actually change the idea. Couldn't it be something that's a little more doable? And they're like, 'No, it'll be awesome.' And then cut to, my calendar has me doing that episode and that sequence. I was the poor son of a b---- who had to figure out how to pull it off."

Wolfhard's advice is to savor it all. "I know that's stupid because I think a lot of people are gonna binge it. That's what streaming is and that's why it can be great," he says. "But also because it's the last season, my advice, if you can, try to make it last as long as you can."

It helps when there are two more episode drops through the new year.

Like Eddie Murphy before him, Pete Davidson joined the cast of *Saturday Night Live* before he was even old enough to legally drink, but his attachment to the comedy icon started long before.**

In the Netflix documentary *Being Eddie, *the *Bupkis* star explained how Murphy helped get him through one of the darkest times of his life when he was just 8, shortly after his dad, a New York City firefighter, was killed as a first responder to the Sept. 11 attacks. **

"My mom took me to the store in the mall that had DVDs and CDs, and *Eddie Murphy Delirious *was there, and I was like, 'What's this? He looks really cool, and this could be fun," Davidson recalled of seeing Murphy clad in his iconic red leather suit on the cover of the box for his 1983 stand-up comedy special. **

Davidson said he was already "a huge Eddie Murphy fan" from more age-appropriate movies like *Shrek *and* Dr. Doolittle*, but what he discovered when he started playing his newly-purchased DVD in the back of his family's Suburban on the way home wasn't what he was used to. **

"Immediately, you know, 'F--- this, suck this, f--- you,' and my mom's like, 'Whoa, what, what'd you get?" he remembered. "I was dying laughing, and she was like, 'You can't watch this or any of that.'"**

But Davidson pleaded with his mother until she finally relented. **

"I was like, 'Please!' I'm laughing, and I think she saw I was enjoying myself and at a time where I really wasn't," he explained. "And she was like, you could watch this stuff as long as you don't repeat it or tell anybody, and it was a kind of a little pact we made, and that opened me to everything.**

A decade later, Davidson would follow in Murphy's footsteps by making a name for himself at *SNL, *where he joined the cast at 20 years old, just a year older than his comedy hero had been as a new cast member in 1980. And as luck would have it, Davidson was working there in 2019 when Murphy returned to the sketch comedy show after a 35-year absence.

The next year, the *King of Staten Island *actor paid tribute to Murphy in his own stand-up comedy special, *Pete Davidson: Alive From New York*, which kicked off with Murphy's "Party All the Time" as the intro song.

Things recently came full circle for Davidson when he got to star with Murphy in this year's heist comedy *The Pickup, *and the pair quickly bonded over losing their dads as children (Murphy's father was murdered in a crime of passion in 1969).

******"We got along real fast, and we both have a lot in common," Davidson previously told *.* "We were always the young guy amongst a bunch of older dudes. We got along really, really, really well."

The *Norbit *star shared Davidson's enthusiasm. "We hit it off famously, and it was really great working with him," Murphy told EW. "I'd love to work with him again."

*Being Eddie *is on Netflix now.

- Disney has canceled a Hong Kong premiere of *Zootopia 2* amid deadly apartment fires.

- Hong Kong Disneyland was set to host a gala presentation of the new animated film.

- The theme park also canceled its nightly fireworks show "out of respect" for the tragedy.

As the death toll rises from a massive high-rise fire in Hong Kong, Disney has canceled its *Zootopia 2 *premiere — and other Hong Kong Disneyland theme park events — "out of respect" for the tragedy that has so far killed nearly 100 people, the company has announced.**

"Due to a serious incident that occurred in Hong Kong, the scheduled appearance of Joey Yung at the 'Friendtastic!' parade, Disney's *Zootopia 2* Selected Magic Access Members Special Screening at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the evening Gala Premiere at Hong Kong Disneyland on Nov. 27, 2025 (Thursday) have been canceled," the park wrote Wednesday on Instagram, announcing the cancellation of a special appearance by Yung, the actress who voices Ginnifer Goodwin's Judy Hopps in the Cantonese dub of Disney's animated sequel.

The park confirmed that "follow-up arrangements" for the* Zootopia 2* screening would be announced soon, adding that, "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this time."**

Hong Kong Disneyland then shared another update on a separate theme park event in a follow-up Instagram Story post.

"Due to an incident in Hong Kong and out of respect, tonight's *Momentous: Party in the Night Sky* will be canceled. Thank you for your understanding," the park wrote, referencing the destination's nightly fireworks spectacular. "Guests who entered the park today with a valid ticket may use the original ticket for revisit on another day within six months from the day of entry."

At press time, the death toll from the Wang Fuk Court complex fires stood at 83, per the Associated Press, which also described the complex as "a dense cluster of buildings housing thousands of people in Tai Po district," a suburb of Hong Kong that closely borders China to the north.

"Our firefighting operation is almost complete," said Derek Armstrong Chan, deputy director of Fire Services Operations, in a statement to the AP. He added that firefighters worked hard "to prevent the debris and embers from flaring up" and that "what's next is the search and rescue operation" to recover those who've died or remain trapped.

Nearly 300 people are reportedly still missing amid the blaze, which sent smoke billowing across the Hong Kong skyline throughout the evening, with crew reportedly battling the blaze throughout most of Wednesday and into the night.

Eileen Chung, a senior superintendent of police, said in a statement to an AP reporter that three people have so far been arrested in connection to the fire, and who were "grossly negligent," Chung alleged.

- Hayden Panettiere tells EW that she still carries around lessons Wes Craven taught her on the *Scream 4 *set.

- Panettiere recalls "memories of the timing of things" — how Craven would slow the action down to "a snail's pace," but "after he put it together and edited everything, he was so right."

- She also says that the late horror auteur "set an amazing example for how I would like to be as a director, as anybody on set."**

Hayden Panettiere takes a little piece of her *Scream 4 *director, Wes Craven, with her everywhere she goes.

"I love the fact that I got to work with Wes Craven. He is amazing," Panettiere tells ** in an interview conducted in September. "I'm so sad that he left us far before his time. But he had an incredible impact on my life and on me as an actor, which I now utilize when I go into other projects."

Panettiere made her entrée into Craven's cinematic meta-slasher universe in 2011, over a decade after the release of the last entry in the franchise that the horror maven kicked off in 1996. She would return in the flesh for 2023's *Scream 6*, after providing a voice cameo to the previous year's fifth franchise entry, simply titled *Scream*. Craven died in 2015, but Panettiere says his memory endures in everything she does, thanks to the impact of some sage advice.

When asked about the biggest pearl of wisdom Craven passed along, Panettiere recalls "memories of the timing of things. So, when you're sitting, he would be like, 'This is going to feel very slow. It's gonna feel like you're moving in slow motion, but when you put the music in and you edit it together, you have to build up that anticipation and you have to hit it right on the nail on the head. You can't be a moment over. You gotta be right on the nose.'"

The director behind not only the *Scream *films but the *Nightmare on Elm Street *franchise would tell Panettiere to "'Move slow, or move slower,' and I would be like, 'Geez, this feels like I'm moving at the pace of a snail.' But watching it afterwards," she remembers, "after he put it together and edited everything, he was so right."

Panettiere speaks of Craven with the highest esteem. "He was so spectacular. I mean, he taught me also how to be on set. I would love to direct at some point in my life, and he was such a fabulous — his spirit, the person that he was, how kind he was. He really was an amazing example. He set an amazing example for how I would like to be as a director, as anybody on set, but as a director if I hopefully direct in the future," she says, adding with a mischievous smirk, "You don't have to be an ass!"****

Ghostface in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group's "Scream 7."

Panettiere's career began in childhood; her first role, in the 1998 Jennifer Aniston-led romantic comedy *The Object of My Affection*, came when she was just 9 years old. Despite being only 36, she has nearly three decades of acting experience to her name, and in that time, has landed numerous memorable parts, from the indestructible cheerleader Claire Bennet on *Heroes*, to the rebellious country star Juliette Barnes on *Nashville*.

Still, *Scream*'s tough and snarky Kirby Reed holds a special place in her heart.

"I love that character. She is so powerful, and she is such a tomboy," she says. "I felt like I got to take the parts of me that people didn't know existed and put them into her. Like, I am that edgy tomboy who sticks to her guns."

To Panettiere, "you can't really define" Kirby, who plays a major role in saving the day in *Scream 6*. "You can't put your finger on on her. She loves guys, she loves girls, she loves the world that she lives in. She is sassy. And I got to bring all of those parts of me that I felt like I had to hide for years, I think, out in her, because I was so terrified that I was going to offend somebody."**

*Scream 7 *is just around the corner, though Panettiere's participation hasn't yet been confirmed.

Last month gave fans their first look at franchise star Neve Campbell's return to the series after she sat *Scream 6 *out amid a contractural dispute. In the official synopsis released by studio Paramount Pictures, the latest entry sees "a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life. Her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all."

It's almost time for curtains for Kristin Chenoweth's new Broadway musical, *The Queen of Versailles.*

On Monday, it was announced that her new show — which opened just three weeks ago — will close on Jan. 4, and she shared a heartfelt video on Wednesday reacting to the abrupt ending.

"I know some of you may have heard that the *Queen of Versailles* on Broadway is closing," Chenoweth said in an Instagram video filmed in her dressing room during an intermission of her show. "I just want to say that I'm so proud of this new art that we've created, and it's getting harder and harder to do."

The Tony winner went on to point out how difficult it has been the past few years for Broadway shows.

"I think about all the shows in the past couple of seasons that have come and gone, that not everybody got to see," she said. "I just love Broadway so much, and I love audiences and a live art form."

Chenoweth then thanked anyone who has seen *Queen of Versailles* at the St. James Theatre so far, and invited everyone to purchase tickets to see the show before it closes on Jan. 4.

"We'd love to see you here," she added, before encouraging people to go and see any show on Broadway right now to support the arts. "Because Broadway is the best. You have a live performance art form, and there's nothing better than to look out and share an experience with an audience."

Watch her video below:

*The Queen of Versailles* is based on Lauren Greenfield's 2012 documentary of the same name about billionaires Jackie and David Siegel trying to build a mansion in Florida inspired by the Palace of Versailles amid the 2008 financial crisis, which negatively impacted their assets and lifestyle.

Chenoweth stars in the musical with F. Murray Abraham, with music and lyrics by Oscar-winner Stephen Schwartz (featuring the first time Chenoweth and Schwartz worked together on Broadway since the original run of *Wicked*). The book comes from Lindsey Ferrentino, and it is directed by Tony-winner Michael Arden.

The musical opened Nov. 9 to negative reviews, with **'s Dalton Ross writing in a review that "the songs are just one of many problems plaguing an identity crisis of a show that doesn't quite seem to know what it wants to be." The show has grossed over $6 million so far after costing an estimated $22.5 million to launch, and was expected to run for much longer since ticketing websites had performances listed through March 29.

Chenoweth's video was cut short when a voice on the loudspeaker announced a five-minute warning to take her place for the top of Act 2 — because the show must go on, even with the end looming.**

Robert Plant is best known as the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, argued as one of the most formative rock and roll bands in history. Since their worldwide debut in 1969, Zeppelin went on to become a top-selling band of all time, with over 300 million records sold—and counting—despite their formal split in 1980.

While speaking on CBS Mornings, Plant discussed his friendship with fellow rock legend, the late Janis Joplin. Joplin tragically died on Oct. 4, 1970, at the age of 27. She is remembered for her raspy voice and emotional lyrics, chronicling a life riddled with drug use and heartache.

"I was friends with her, yeah. She used to look after me," said Plant, a reflective gleam in his eye.

"She used to bring me stuff to help me with my voice, when my voice was rough."

When asked if the late songstress brought him tea, Plant said: "No, vodka."

On Sept. 26, 2025, Plant released his latest project, Saving Grace. The musician's twelfth studio album outside of Led Zeppelin, Saving Grace features singer Suzi Dian, as well as the rest of his touring band: Oli Jefferson on drums, Tony Kelsey on guitar, Matt Worley on strings and banjo, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown.

The band will tour throughout the U.K. in December, kicking things off at Portsmouth Guildhall in England on Dec. 8.

"I guess I finally got off all the busses that led to one particular destination in my career, and just got into this bus, and this is... it's fine," said Plant, adding the 'bus' in question is his "saving grace."

When asked what saving grace means to him, Plant reflected: "Exactly this. I'm free."
