Netflix has finally unveiled the celebrity who will portray the mysterious Aunt Ophelia for *Wednesday*'s upcoming season 3, and it's safe to say they chose the perfect actress.
*Penny Dreadful* star Eva Green will make her debut as Wednesday's (Jenna Ortega) Aunt Ophelia, who's been spoken about in hushed whispers throughout season 2.
"Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia," co-creators and co-showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement. "We're excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday's world."**
Green herself added, "I'm thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of *Wednesday* as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can't wait to bring my own touch of cuckooness to the Addams family."

The mystifying Ophelia is explained to possess similar psychic powers to Wednesday, as they're both psychic ravens. But when pressed to address her sister's absence, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) admits that she "pushed her psychic ability too far," and that's "why she went away."
As we learned when Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) lets it slip, Ophelia was actually sent to Willow Hill. Morticia recalls an incident when Ophelia, who was a sophomore at Nevermore, was found "screaming in the quad" with "black tears running down her cheeks." Grandmama (Joanna Lumley) chose to send Ophelia away, against Morticia's objections.
Ophelia eventually left the psychiatric facility, but her whereabouts have been a mystery for 20 years.
'Wednesday' season 2 ending explained: Who is Isaac Night — and what does he reveal about the Addams' dark past?

Fans caught a glimpse of the character in the final moments of season 2 part 2's finale, when a flower-crowned Ophelia shows up locked in Grandmama Hester's house. There, she's written on the wall: "Wednesday must die."**
It's not exactly the beginning of a joyous family reunion.
Speaking with Tudum, Gough said that the tease is "a driver into season 3." Millar added that the question of how Ophelia fits "into the Addams family and what [she will] bring" is a major focus of next season.
It isn't surprising that Ophelia and Morticia also have a complex relationship. "Ophelia has been gone a long time," said Millar. "It's left a hole in Morticia's life, and a lot of unanswered questions. The re-emergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb."

And that's only one of the many stories at play that season 3 will have to contend with. The new installment will tackle Enid (Emma Myers) having to navigate her fate as an alpha werewolf, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), taking advantage of the opportunity to live as a Hyde without a master, and, of course, Nevermore is going to need a new principal after Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) was exposed as a conman!
"You will be very surprised," Gough teased of the school's new leader.
