Goonies never say die, especially when it comes to '80s fashion.
Just ask Stranger Things costume designer Amy Parris, who confirmed that the beloved 1985 adventure film served as inspiration for the ensemble worn by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in the recently released fifth season.
In the episodes released so far, El has donned a pair of little red shorts over grey sweatpants with a cropped grey top.
"[It's] a mix of Josh Brolin from The Goonies and then Punky Brewster, with her mish-mash of cut-up clothes that she just kind of grabbed as she went," Parris explained to the New York Post, referring to the titular character played by Soleil Moon Frye in the '80s sitcom of the same name.
Brolin's Goonies character Brand famously wore similar clothes, with a red bandana, a cut-off grey T-shirt, and black shorts over grey sweats.

Apparently, El's sartorial choices are getting a "reaction" online, which Parris said she expected.
"It's funny, because I've been starting to get comments from people that are like, 'Shorts over sweats?' And I'm like, it was absolutely a thing in the '80s! I knew this would be the reaction," Parris told the Post.
This includes the star, who apparently expressed some doubts about the look initially.
"She saw the concept art originally, which I showed to [series creators] the Duffer brothers. And once we settled on an idea, we emailed it to her. I found out later that she had side-emailed them, like, 'Are you sure about this?'" Parris said.
The designer told the outlet that she believes Brown "got into it" eventually, though.
"You know, once she saw how cute it looked on her. And it's definitely a fashion risk for the time," she explained. "She got into it, I think, once she realized how comfortable it was, and how easy it was to put on."
